Color Complements

I like being able to color the background of a section in a gallery. Frequently I'll use the dropper to grab a color from one of the images. This tactic works okay but sometime washed out the images. A better solution would be to select the color then alter it to the complement on the color wheel to provide a certain kind of contrast. Unfortunately, there's no easy way to do this. Can you make it easy?
